Temporary Road Closure on Chesapeake Street, SW, and the Intersection of Chesapeake and 2nd Street, SW for DC PLUG from October 30 to November 11, 2023
(WASHINGTON, DC) —The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is advising of a temporary road closure on the 100 block of Chesapeake Street, SW, from Martin Luther King, Jr Avenue, SW, to South Capitol Terrace, SW, the Unit block of Chesapeake Street between South Capitol Terrace and South Capitol Street, SW and the Intersection of Chesapeake Street and 2nd street, SW for the installation of manholes and conduits.
- From October 30 to November 11, 2023. Installation of manholes and conduits on the 100 block of Chesapeake Street, from Martin Luther King, Jr Avenue to South Capitol Terrace, SW, and the unit block of Chesapeake Street from South Capital Terrace and South Capitol Street, SW
- From November 6 to November 11, 2023. Installation of manholes and conduits at the intersection of Chesapeake Street and 2nd Street, SW
The temporary road closure will begin on October 30 and continue through November 11, 2023, between 7 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., weather permitting. Residents will still have access to their apartments, and parking will be prohibited as marked by “Emergency No Parking” signs.
The road closure is necessary to complete the DC Power Line Undergrounding (DC PLUG) initiative’s Feeder 14758 project manhole conduit and pavement installations. The DC PLUG initiative is a partnership between the DDOT and Pepco to improve the resiliency and reliability of the District of Columbia electric system by placing select systems underground. Feeders are primary distribution power lines that provide services to approximately 1,100 residents within a specific neighborhood.
