Temporary Lane Closes on Florida Avenue & New York Avenue NE, October 30, 2023
(WASHINGTON, DC) —The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is alerting all stakeholders that New York Avenue NE (from First Street NE to Florida Avenue NE) will be reduced to one lane in the northeast outbound direction beginning on October 30, 2023, weather permitting. These lane closures will remain in place between 6:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, and will be reopened for the rush hour in that direction. These closures are anticipated to extend through November of 2023.
These lane closures are necessary to install electrical and water infrastructure for the Florida Avenue NE and New York Avenue NE Intersection Project. Please expect delays. Traffic controls, including signage, will be in place to guide motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians safely through the work zone. All roadway users are advised to stay alert and be observant of signage and work zones while traveling in this area.
The completed project will improve overall safety for pedestrians, motorists, and cyclists along the corridor and include Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant intersections, traffic calming measures, improved traffic signal operation, enhanced streetscape, and three new green spaces for people.
