Traffic Advisory: Temporary Closure of Kenilworth Avenue NE Service Road Southbound near Douglas Street Pedestrian Bridge
(WASHINGTON, DC) —The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will implement periodic closures of the southbound service road of Kenilworth Avenue, NE, between Douglas Street, NE, and Ord Street, NE. These temporary closures commenced on August 25, 2023, and are in place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will persist for approximately two months.
When this detour is not required for construction, the road will be re-opened to traffic.
This closure is necessary to install utility lines and ramp erection close to the service road and would cause a safety hazard to traffic. The team will make all attempts to keep at least 1-lane of traffic open but will be closed if it is deemed that public safety is impacted by construction.
Traffic controls, including signage, will be in place to detour vehicles around the work zone.
Once completed, the Douglas Street Pedestrian Bridge project will remove and replace the existing bridge over Kenilworth Avenue, NE (DC-295) and adjacent service roads with a new bridge with increased vertical clearance and ADA-compliant ramps, as well as improving the bridge’s structural integrity.
