MAR Location Data Changes Coming August 18, 2023

Do you frequently reference MAR datasets such as address points, points of interest, intersections, and blocks? Please read below for coming data changes

Dear Open Data DC Users,

On Friday August 18, 2023, the Office of the Chief Technology Officer will publish an updated set of Master Address Repository (MAR) datasets for the District of Columbia. These include address points, points of interest, intersections, blocks, and a new data layer named retired address points.

The MAR datasets define the valid components of DC addresses (Address Number, Street Name, Street Type, Quadrant), including their correct formatting and spelling. It also includes related datasets for intersections, blocks, and place names (points of interest) for prominent locations.

After August 18th, the updates will show a few attribution changes that you should be aware of. The most significant change comes with the ADDRESS_ID unique identifier column which will now be named MAR_ID across all five datasets. If you have built web apps using Open Data DC's layer or call DC GIS map services directly, you may need to make a modification. Possible modifications include any filtering based on attribution that will no longer be available. Click here to view change documentation (PDF). During this planned update, downtime is not expected. We will begin at 9:30 PM with an expected completion of 10:00 PM.

Thank you for your support as we perform these updates to keep the following datasets and feature services current,
