Temporary Closures for M Street SE Multimodal Project to Begin July 31, 2023
(WASHINGTON, DC) —The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close lanes to perform construction activities along M Street SE beginning July 31, 2023, weather permitting. The start-up construction activity focuses on Full-depth pavement and median reconstruction during this first week of construction, from Half Street SE to Fourth Street SE.
Lane closures will be necessary to accomplish this work safely. The project seeks to build transit improvements and establish a new bicycle network connection between protected lanes on First Street SE, New Jersey Avenue SE, 4th Street SE, 11th Street SE, and trail segments on the 1100 block of M Street, which will connect to the Anacostia River Trail (ART).
Daily two-lane closures will take place between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Single Lane closures will take place daily between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. in critical areas. Night and weekend work is permitted, 72 hours notification will be provided to the public. Due to the scheduled events at Nationals Park, lane closures will not occur on game days where games begin at 12:05 p.m., 1:05 p.m., and 4:05 p.m. On those days, Single Lane closures will take place after 9:00 p.m. to avoid departing baseball fans.
As this project moves forward, notifications will be sent to the public 72 hours prior to any updates taking place.
To ensure safe passage through the work zone during median reconstruction, traffic controls will be implemented to guide all roadway users. Motorists should anticipate delays resulting from lane closures, and are advised to remain vigilant and watchful of signage and construction crews while traveling in this vicinity.
