A Message From the Interim Director

Shirley Kwan-Hui

Dear Team,

It's hard to believe that it's been nearly two months since we became the Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP). We've continued our work to be innovative and collaborative in assisting our customers in learning about the agency and our role in serving them.

I am excited about our next steps and l look forward to continuing working across the agency as we forge the best path ahead together for our team and for those whom we serve.

Next week we will host a Virtual Hiring Fair, please encourage all qualified applicants in your networks to apply for our open positions.

During this season of Thanksgiving, I have been reflecting on the things I am most grateful for. Primarily among them is our dedicated group of staff. Thank you for your hard work and for providing excellent customer service. Without your commitment, creativity, flexibility, and high standards, we would not be the thriving agency that we are.

This is also a good time to consider how else you'd like to give back to our community. The DC ONE FUND is a great workplace giving program that I recommend you consider contributing to.   Staff have given generously in years past, and it is my hope that our DLCP team will support this program.  Please read on to learn more.

I wish you and your family a happy Thanksgiving filled with abundance and bright moments.  If you are traveling over the holiday, please be stay safe.

Best,

Shirley Kwan-Hui

Interim Director

DC ONE FUND: Each One Give One

The DC One Fund is a convenient tool for you to make a donation to the charity of your choice through payroll deduction. If you itemize deductions on your taxes, this is a simple way to track your donations. Also, please remember that every donation of any dollar amount makes an impact in our community.

The DC One Fund program is the District Government’s workplace giving program. It is jointly administered by the United Way of the National Capital Area and The United Black Fund Inc. of Greater Washington, DC.

The program is run by the Office of the Secretary of the District of Columbia. The Office of the Secretary, in conjunction with agency coordinators, plans and administers the day‐to‐day operations of the One Fund program.

District government employees can manage their One Fund donations electronically during the campaign season that begins on the first Monday of October and ends on the second Friday of December, lasting approximately 10 weeks. Recurring payroll deduction, one-time payroll deduction, credit, or debit card payments are accepted.

All payroll deduction pledges start on the first or second pay period of the following calendar year.

Can I do a one‐time donation?

Yes, you can. Go to www.dconefund.org and select the “pledge now” button, login, and then you may donate using the one‐time payroll deduction option or the credit card option.

How do I find my agency’s coordinator?
Send an email to dconefund@dc.gov with your agency’s name and we will respond to you with the name, email and phone number of your agency’s coordinator

Can I give $25 or less to my favorite charity?
No. United Way of the National Capital Area, which is the lead administrator of the DC One Fund drive, will not send donations of $25 or less to an individual charity. If an employee wants to designate funds to his or her charity of choice, the total annual contribution must be at least $26. Donations of $25 or less will be treated as undesignated contributions. Undesignated contributions are used to pay for the annual financial audit of the DC One Fund and other administrative costs. The United Way’s Community Impact Fund is supported by the remaining undesignated funds.

Can I change the amount of money allocated or the charity to which my donations are allocated?
Yes. Please go to the DC One Fund donation site, select the “pledge now” button, login, and from there, click “edit” on the donation summary page.

My charity is not a member of United Way or United Black Fund. How do I get my charity on the list of One Fund charities?
Go to onefund.dc.gov to obtain an application for independent organizations.

Language Access | Serving Speakers of Many Languages

As a District agency, we serve customers from many communities, some of whom are not English-proficient. Being innovative and technology-forward, we must remain committed to preserving and protecting access for all members of the public to deliver our services effectively.

The DC Language Access Act of 2004 obligates the District government to provide equal access and participation in public services, programs, and activities for residents who cannot (or have limited capacity to) speak, read, or write English.

To assist staff, we have prepared the following information for your use. When engaging with a customer who speaks another language, please be at the ready to assist them.

Stay tuned for upcoming training opportunities.

Maintain A Secure IT Infrastructure | Please Restart Computers Daily

As part of DLCP's commitment to providing access to information and ensuring a strong cyber security, we want to ensure that all of our systems are up-to-date with the latest security updates. Most of these updates are applied automatically to your computer, but require a reboot of your system in order to take effect.

We encourage everyone to restart their DC-issued computer on a daily basis. Since this may not always be possible, please restart your computer at least once a week. In addition to ensuring that security is up-to-date, a restart will also improve how your computer performs.
