Temporary Closure of 21st Street NW on November 17, 2022
(WASHINGTON, DC) — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is advising all stakeholders of an emergency road closure on 21st Street NW from Q Street NW to P Street NW due to a Washington Gas Company leak in the roadway along Massachusetts Ave NW.
At approximately 10:15am, a gas line was hit causing a gas valve leak during roadway reconstruction for the Rehabilitation of Massachusetts Avenue NW project in the 2100 block of Massachusetts Avenue NW between Q Street NW and 21st Street NW (in front of the Embassy of Indonesia). Washington Gas and the necessary agencies are on site while this issue is being resolved. For the public’s safety, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) temporarily closed Massachusetts Avenue NW (between Q Street NW and 20th Street NW). At 11:27am, Massachusetts Avenue NW was reopened to traffic; however, 21st Street NW has been closed (from Q Street NW to P Street NW) until Washington Gas completes all repairs.
Traffic controls, including signage, will be in place to guide motorists and pedestrians safely through the work zone. All users of the roadway are advised to stay alert and be observant of signage and work zones while traveling in this area.
