Masks are no longer required for passengers or operators of ride-hailing vehicles, taxis, or other for-hire vehicles. Masking is still recommended for personal protection.
DFHV fee waivers end on Friday, September 30
As part of the agency's commitment to work with the industry in recovering from the impacts of the COVID-19 health emergency, DFHV provided temporary fee relief. Now, as customer demand has risen, the fee waiver initiative will expire Friday, September 30, at 11:59 p.m. The agency will resume processing all renewal application according to the official fee schedule on Monday, October 3, 2022.
Online Document Submission
DFHV has added another exciting feature to our online services platform! This new tool will give both companies and operators the ability to make online submissions for the following transactions:
- Driver’s License Renewal Updates
- Vehicle Insurance Updates
- Address Changes
- Phone Number Changes
- Email Changes

Fast Pass holders jump to the front of the line at Union Station
Union Station Fast Pass holders are allowed to jump to the front of the line at Union Station Monday - Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. All other taxis in the line MUST yield to Union Station Fast Pass holders.
This program rewards taxi drivers who transport the most wheelchair users in wheelchair-accessible vehicles (WAVs). The pilot provides additional income opportunities and encourages WAV drivers to complete more trips for residents in wheelchairs.
Since the pilot program’s relaunch, drivers using their Fast Pass have provided more than 470 rides, resulting in a combined $6,500 of additional income. Many WAV operators have increased their WAV trips, and interest is growing among non-WAV drivers regarding the program. For more information, visit dfhv.gov/FastPass.
EV Charging Stations
DFHV has installed two new EV charging stations at the Union Station parking garage. Drivers can access the charging stations and secure passwords by contacting Transco Inc. at 202-398-0526 or transcoinc888@aol.com. Stations are open and available daily, Sunday thru Saturday, 24 hours a day.
New Advanced Technical Center Program
The Office of the State Superintendent for Education (OSSE) Advanced Technical Center (ATC) Program launched for the 2022-2023 school year. The program provides transportation for students participating in the OSSE Advanced Technical Center Pilot Program. Students are transported from various DC High Schools to Trinity University Campus, Monday thru Friday.
Protect yourself from car theft
You may have heard reports of car theft and carjackings over the last few months. Unfortunately, for-hire vehicles are often targets for this type of crime. Always be aware of your surroundings and if something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts. Please remember that your vehicle can be replaced but you cannot. If you are in a dangerous situation, please comply and do not try to fight back. If your vehicle is stolen do not try and chase after it. Call 911 and your insurance will cover your vehicle. There are several things you can do to protect yourself from car theft.
- Always lock your car
- Never leave your vehicle idling/running unattended – even if your key fob is on you, someone can still drive off with your car until it stops, or gas runs out
- Always keep track of your keys, never leave them inside the vehicle
- Do not leave children unattended inside your vehicle
- Park in a safe spot
- Stay alert and aware of your surroundings
- If you see suspicious activity, report it anonymously by calling (202) 727-9099
· If you are a victim of a crime, report it immediately by calling 911
Empower notice
The ride-hailing company called "Empower" does not have authority to operate in the District. Drivers and passengers, protect yourself and your livelihood. Any individual working as a driver using the Empower app may be issued a $500 fine and their vehicle can be impounded.
