We're giving back to DC's Veterans!
On Tuesday, October 19, DFHV joined the Mayor’s Office of Veteran’s Affairs (MOVA) to highlight VetsRide, one of our transportation programs. VetsRide helps DC’s veterans get to educational opportunities, jobs, and health care. VetsRide has provided convenient, affordable, and efficient transportation for veterans in DC. These rides help veterans access educational, health, employment, food distribution, or housing services for veterans making less than $45,000 a year. In April 2020 we expanded eligibility to recently unemployed veterans and expanded the number of rides per month. We have worked with Via to provide these trips. And over the past year, the program provided more than 4,000 trips. At the event, veteran Richard White (pictured on the right in the photo) talked about his experience using the service. He said he was able to get a ride so he could get essential health care during the public health emergency. Learn more about VetsRide.

Did you know TransportDC changes took place October 1?
TransportDC, a program that provides taxi rides for people with disabilities, changed October 1. Fares increased by $2 and there will be a limit of 10 one-way trips per month (or five round trips) but trip restrictions the last half of the month will be lifted. Customers who use Transport DC to get to and from dialysis can apply for an exemption so that their dialysis trips don’t count towards the monthly trip limit. Learn more about TransportDC.
Reminder about meters
We’re reminding taxi drivers that they are required to have a working meter and be signed up with a Digital Taxicab Solution (DTS) provider. DFHV has received complaints about meters not working properly and/or being overcharged. DFHV's Compliance and Enforcement Division has initiated a citywide crack down to ensure that we accomplish our Department mission of ensuring that the residents and visitors to the Nation’s Capital will have a safe, comfortable and affordable transportation experience. Our Vehicle Inspection Officers will issue Notice of Infractions for these types of violations.
