FACE ID Extension
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the current operating status of the District, DFHV has suspended the collection of fees for all licenses and permits. All active FACE IDs and Non-District limousine permits scheduled to expire after March 1, 2020 have received automatic extensions until 60 days after the end of the public health emergency. No appointments will be scheduled for FACE ID renewals or NDL permits. License and permit holders will receive updated renewal notifications via email.
The agency will continue to monitor the operating status of the public health emergency and will update all impacted stakeholders. For updated information, please contact the Client Services Division at (202) 645-7300 or DFHV.ClientServices@dc.gov.
Reminders for Safe Driving
DFHV applauds the service of drivers who remain active during the pandemic by transporting passengers in the District. To ensure the best ride experience for drivers and passengers, please follow these guidelines to safely operate:

- Personal or unauthorized payment devices are not permitted.
- Credit cards must be an acceptable form of payment.
- The use of offensive or profane language is strictly prohibited.
- FACE ID must be clearly displayed for the passenger’s view.
- Discrimination against customers on the basis of race, national origin, or other reasons as described in your company’s policies, local, state, and federal law, is not allowed.
- Passengers and drivers should treat each other with mutual respect.
- Physical and/or verbal abuse is not allowed.
- If a passenger refuses to comply with safety measures, drivers may report this concern to their taxi company, rideshare app, and/or the authorities, as appropriate.
- Wear your mask at all times while operating a for-hire vehicle.
- Drive safely at all times.
For questions and concerns, please email us at dfhv@dc.gov.
Mask Up, DC!
Wearing a mask is not hard. Breathing on a ventilator is! Do your part to slow the spread: (1) Stay home if you can. (2) #WearAMask over your mouth AND nose. (3) Stay 6 feet from others and avoid crowds. (4) Wash your hands often. Visit coronavirus.dc.gov for more information.
Prevent Auto Thefts
Washington, DC, along with other major cities around the nation, is experiencing an increase in carjackings, auto thefts, and unauthorized use of vehicle offenses in its communities.
The DC Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is sharing ways that drivers can avoid becoming a target of these crimes:
- Always lock your car.
- Never leave your vehicle idling/running unattended – even if your key fob is on you, someone can still drive off with your car until it stops or gas runs out.
- Always keep track of your keys, never leave them inside the vehicle.
- Do not leave children unattended inside your vehicle.
- Park in a safe spot.
- Stay alert and aware of your surroundings.
- If you see suspicious activity, report it anonymously by calling 202-727-9099.
- If you are a victim of a crime, report it immediately by calling 911.
Visit MPD’s website for more information on how to stay safe: mpdc.dc.gov/page/auto-theft-prevention.
