 As we celebrate Black History Month 2020, join us in telling the stories and honoring the rich legacy of Black History DC. Checkout the citywide Black History Month calendar (PDF) for a full list of events. Here are MOAAA's Black History Month social media series, Sunday Family Dinner Series and DC Faces, Historic Places.

Sunday Family Dinners: A video series joining residents as they host MOAAA and have a conversation about what it was it like growing up in DC, the significance of how family values shaped their identity, and their contribution and legacy to DC. This series will give residents an opportunity to share their story and for viewers to connect with programs and initiatives in an engaging way.

DC Faces, Historic Places is a live broadcast educating and encouraging residents to visit historically African American places in the District of Columbia. Guest speakers will be featured on Mayor Bowser’s Facebook Live to showcase the historical significance of sites and places in DC.

Housing Resources

DC Housing Search

The DC Department of Housing & Community Development (DHCD) has a lot of resources that assists residents with housing like:

  • DCHousingSearch.org connects residents to housing by providing resources such as renter's rights information, assistance programs, and an affordability calculator.
  • Housing Equity Report provides goals for the equitable distribution of affordable housing in DC.

DC 2020 Census

Census

The 2010 Census led to the creation of the Commission on African American Affairs in 2012 and the Mayor's Office on African American Affairs in 2015. Mayor Bowser has invested $5M into the 2020 Census to ensure that African Americans are counted and that they can stay and thrive in the District.

OP BHM

The Office of Planning (OP) performs research and analysis, serves as the steward of DC's historic resources, and publishes planning documents for the District. Here is a snapshot of data on African Americans in DC from the Office of Planning (OP).
