One of the issues we hear about most frequently from residents is illegal construction. To help residents spot and report illegal construction, we’ve put together a short video.
It’s important to note that permits are required for construction in the District, and that absent special permits, construction work can only be performed between the hours of 7:00 am and 7:00 pm (Monday–Saturday). Construction is also barred on holidays.

If you’ve ever driven down 14th Street along the National Mall, you’ve probably noticed the food trucks illegally parked in the no-parking lanes. Frustratingly, this creates traffic issues during the morning and evening commutes. The District issues parking tickets and tows the vehicles regularly, but the food truck operators haven’t been deterred and see this as part of the cost of doing business.
To solve this issue, the Bowser Administration has proposed some new regulations that would expand the current food truck lottery system to include both sides of 14th Street NW and the West side of 7th Street NW (between Constitution Ave. NW and Independence Ave. SW) on weekdays between the morning and evening commutes (10:30am–2:30pm). DCRA is also proposing a new “auction” system during the weekends, when food trucks make their most money along the National Mall. Under this system the highest bidders would be able to secure legal parking spaces. This new system creates a legal way for food truck entrepreneurs to make money, ensures that the city’s rush hour lanes are open for traffic; establishes a safer traffic flow for residents, visitors and commuters; and generates revenue for the District.

Our CorpsOnline portal is getting a facelift. Originally launched in 2011, we’ve redesigned the nine-year-old portal to make it easier to use.
The new CorpsOnline portal:
- Expands online services from 30 to more than 60 services.
- Allows the existing 65,000+ corporation users to register, renew, cancel and change trade names faster.
- Combines filings – such as biennial reports, foreign entity filings and certificate requests – making it easier to comply with District laws.
- Provides an intuitive wizard to assist new customers by navigating them to the correct filing type.
- Empowers existing customers to search for their organization and see the number and type of filing that pertains to them.
- Allows customers to sign up for system alerts pertaining to filing deadlines and changes.
eRecords gives you access to all the same information you’re used to – permit records, permit plans, applications, etc. – in an easier to navigate format. eRecords is also mobile-friendly so that you can view our website from your mobile phone or tablet.
