Advancing DC GIS ArcGIS Server Map Services to Version 10.6
OCTO will retire 10.3.1 map services by cutting over to version 10.6 on Thursday September 20, 2018.
The DC Chief Technology Officer’s Data division is working to provide its end users better DC GIS infrastructure and service delivery via its web map services. These online map services allow agency partners and really anyone with an internet connection, to utilize the District’s hundreds of datasets in desktop apps, mobile devices and custom web apps using APIs or RESTful connections.
Tomorrow September 20, 2018 beginning at 9:00 PM, OCTO will be retiring the current 10.3.1 ArcGIS Server by switching over to version 10.6. OCTO and District agency stakeholders owning custom apps have tested and planned for a smooth migration that should not be noticeable to end users. However, following the migration users may find they need to clear their web browser cache to successfully connect to https://maps2.dcgis.dc.gov/dcgis/rest/services.
We understand that changes to web services pose special challenges to those who have developed or customized applications to use these. However, DC government needs to responsibly work to take advantage of, strengthen and move to new technologies as they become available. We do our best to keep from breaking public apps built on our resources. But at a certain point, old investments need to be set aside to make way for new ones.
