Permitting Education Series

Attention District homeowners! Join us for DCRA's Homeowner's Center Permitting Education Series that will help prepare you for your home improvement projects this summer. Our workshops will be led by DCRA permitting & plan review staff who will cover industry best practices for small renovation projects. Learn more and RSVP to attend our workshops here. Information on our workshops can also be found below.

Thursday, July 19, 2018 – How to Submit a Complete Set of Plans?

In this workshop, we will provide guidance on how to spot substandard drawings.

Topics include:

  • How to spot plans that are of poor quality and how hiring a qualified designer is important and necessary
  • Reviewing side-by-side a complete set of plans versus a substandard set of plans

Wednesday, August 8, 2018 – What Needs a Permit?

Are you a homeowner who is unsure about which projects require a permit and which do not? If so, then this workshop is for you! Permits protect you and your property and help you avoid fines and Stop Work Orders for illegal and unpermitted construction. Permits can be an ally, not an obstacle, by keeping your contractor honest and also maintaining good standing with your homeowner’s insurance policies. Lastly, learn specifically what the DC Construction Codes require when doing renovations inside and outside your home.
