Making the Move to the Newest ArcGIS Server for Map Services!
DC GIS will soon be deploying a new version of ArcGIS Server that will increase stability of its map services.
DC's Chief Technology Office (OCTO) is actively working to upgrade its ArcGIS Server infrastructure to the newest version. These servers support the many map services that power DC government and publicly created interactive web maps and desktop tools. They are used in ArcGIS Online, DC Atlas Plus, DC Data Catalog and specialized government agency applications you have come to depend on. For GIS techies out there, this upgrade will be from version 10.2 to ArcGIS Server 10.3.1. Learn more.
As of now OCTO's target date for deployment is between September 30 to October 2, 2015. With this upgrade users can expect,
- increased stability and reliability needed for operations
- better handling of secure communication using https on the server side
- map service web addresses to remain the same
- automatic conversion from web maps using http requests to the new https
This project has many moving parts requiring careful testing and consideration of how DC government applications may be affected. OCTO has created a public facing testing environment to support this. Public and agency customers who have built web map and desktop applications using DC GIS map services are strongly advised to evaluate how this upgrade will affect you. Please contact gisgroup@dc.gov for questions regarding this effort and stay tuned for updates on this important project.
