Happy New Year YGLers! 

We are foregoing our usual newsletter this month as we gear up for an eventful 2014. Below is information about a few upcoming events and a request for your assistance in continuing to improve YGL in the new year.

Free IDP Training - January 9th

It’s officially 2014 and I’m sure most of you came up with a few resolutions.  Maybe it’s to exercise more, stop smoking, or be a better cook. But what’s your government New Year's resolution? How are you improving and increasing your learning in 2014? Luckily for you, this Thursday, we are hosting a free online training in conjunction with GovLoop: “Creating Your Individual Development Plan,” featuring HR experts and successful leaders on how to make the best training plan, including our very own Ginny Hill.

Making a great IDP can result in you getting training that excites you, resources that will help you grow your career and/or even hone tactical skills for future development. Join us on Thursday, January 9th from 2:00-3:00 PM ET for an informative IDP training webinar. 

In this training, you will understand and learn:
  • The Importance of Creating an IDP
  • Example's of how to Create your own IDP
  • Tips and Tricks for Making Your IDP Useful

Volunteer with fellow young feds for MLK Service Day - January 20th

Dr. King said, “Everybody can be great, because anybody can serve.” Join Young Government Leaders and hundreds of volunteers through City Year Washington, DC to transform a high-need school into a more engaging, educational and vibrant place for students to learn and play. Service projects will include painting murals and accents, light construction, organization, kit-making and workshops for youth.

Ring in the New Year with YGL and the DC Connect Network in Charity Happy Hour Style - January 30th

On Thursday, January 30, 2014, socialize and network with fellow young professionals at the year's first charity happy hour! Join other rising professionals from across the public, non-profit and private sector.
