A Note From the Social Events Coordinator
Congratulations - YGL ABQ Completes a Successful First Year
The Young Government Leaders of Albuquerque kicked off its first event in December 2011. With support from the New Mexico Federal Executive Board (FEB) and the National YGL Chapter, the first year was a success. YGL ABQ has grown to over 150 members representing 24 government agencies. Not only did YGL ABQ reach its membership goal and become fully chartered, the Young Government Leaders of Albuquerque participated in various activities with goals of developing future leaders, improving the community, and building relationships among government employees in the Albuquerque Metro area.
During this past year, members participated in community service, professional development, and fun social events to encourage networking among government employees. We raised over $700 for the American Cancer Society and the Carrie Tingley Children’s Hospital. We volunteered our time and donated over 100 pounds of food to the Roadrunner Food Bank (RRFB), We hosted developmental events with topics that included Building Your Career Path and Developing Professional Working Relationships; Getting the Edge in Interviews; and Retirement Matters: Investment Strategies for Retirement. We also created a first of its kind mentoring program that can be used across government agencies. We expect that mentoring will continue to be a premier program for our federal community in the Albuquerque area.
We want to thank our Albuquerque business partners for hosting social events at El Pinto Restaurant, Boston’s Gourmet Pizza, Season’s Bar and Grill, and the Barley Room.
As the YGL events coordinator for 2012, let me be the first to invite you to our One Year Anniversary! Please come out and help us honor the exceptional people in Albuquerque that made our chapter one of the most successful in the nation. On December 11th from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, we will celebrate our one year anniversary during our networking social at El Pinto. We hope to see you there.

Roadrunner Food Bank Drive a Success
Thank you to all those that donated to YGL ABQ’s food drive in conjunction with the 2012 Feds Feed Families initiative. We donated over 100 pounds of non-perishable food items to the Roadrunner Food Bank. We are proud to be able to give back to our community.
Give a little HELP A LOT.
The CFC 2012 Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) solicitation period started September 1st. Last year almost one million Federal employees pledged over $272 million to participating local, national and international charities.
Last year the CFC celebrated its 50th anniversary. Federal employees created the original CFC-One campaign and was established by a Presidential Executive Order signed by President John F. Kennedy in 1961. Today, it continues to be the world’s largest and most successful workplace fundraising model in the world, raising over $7 billion for charities designated by federal employees.
You will have an opportunity to make a pledge this fall. You determine how much you can contribute and which participating organization receives your contribution. Even the smallest of donations can go a long way to making a difference in someone’s life.
To learn more about the CFC, you can talk to the CFC keyworkers who will be distributing the Charity List and pledge forms in your office.
