The city has undeniably been shaped by its Ethiopian residents, just as it has shaped them. On Saturday, Nov. 16 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Sankofa Video Books and Cafe (2714 Georgia Ave NW), celebrate D.C. Ethiopian Archives Day with DC Public Library and spend the afternoon learning about the People's Archives' initiative to preserve Ethiopian history in D.C. Are you a small business owner or thinking about starting a small business? DC Public Library is proud to partner with The DC Department of Small and Local Business (DSLBD) to offer one-on-one meeting time on Wednesdays at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library for DC-based entrepreneurs and businesses to learn more about DSLBD programs, connect with additional services in the District, and develop a for-profit business.
As a part of the one-on-one support, DC-based businesses, residents, and businesses considering expansion into DC are eligible to meet with an Innovation & Equitable Development advisor. Assistance includes:

Join My School DC at their upcoming EdFEST 2024 events to explore the city’s public school options (PK3 – Grade 12) for your child. With the launch of the My School DC lottery application on December 16, 2024 for the 2025-26 school year, EdFEST is a timely event to help you make informed school selections.
EdFEST (Grades 9-12) Saturday, Dec. 7 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Eastern High School FREE admission and parking
EdFEST (PK3 – Grade 8) Saturday, Dec. 14 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. DC Armory FREE admission and parking
Representatives from public and public charter schools will showcase their programs. EdFEST will also feature many free services and fun activities for the whole family including guidance on navigating the lottery process from the My School DC team and Parent Advisory Council, routine childhood vaccines and flu and COVID shots for adults (appointments required), recreational activities from DC Department of Parks & Recreation (Dec. 14), free meals from DC Central Kitchen (Dec. 14), and more!
