 Join us for the Know Your Power Showcase, a celebration of social justice, creativity, and youth voice on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 5 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library. DC Public Library and Politics and Prose are pleased to present Kim Johnson as the keynote speaker for the evening, the acclaimed author of young adult thrillers, This is My America and her newest book, Invisible Son. Ms. Johnson will discuss Invisible Son and her journey as a writer. Then, we will recognize the work of the teen artists who submitted writing, art, photography, and music to the 4th annual Know Your Power civic engagement arts contest. The event will conclude with the announcement of the contest's winners.
Audience members present for this event will receive a free copy of Invisible Son, while supplies last, courtesy of Pepco and the District of Columbia Public Library Foundation.

 Enjoy an afternoon of two of DC’s (and DC Public Library’s!) well-loved music genres - Punk and Go-Go! Make your way to the front of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library under the loggia on Sept. 24, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and hear the familiar beats of both Punk and Go-Go in one sitting! The afternoon’s lineup includes some of the biggest legends and visionaries of Go-Go and punk: Big Tony & Trouble Funk, Scream, Black Alley, Bacchae, and Breezy Supreme. See you there!

 Art All Night returns this September for a city-wide activation of art and culture, open and free to all! DC Art All Night will occur from 7:00 PM to 3:00 AM the following morning on two nights—Sept. 29 and 30. The festival will take place in all 8 wards with different activations on each night, bringing visual and performing arts, including painting, photography, sculpture, crafts, fashion, music, literary arts, dance, theater, film, and poetry, to indoor and outdoor public and private spaces, including local businesses and restaurants.

For the second year in a row, the DC Public Library is offering a chance to curate an exhibition to be displayed in the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library. This opportunity is for exhibitions scheduled in Summer 2024 and beyond. The next deadline for applications will be Friday, November 3, 11:59 p.m. We invite proposals for group exhibitions with multiple artists as well as themed exhibitions exploring a topic in local history and culture. Please note that we are not accepting proposals for solo exhibitions by living artists at this time.
