During Winter Challenge you can train your brain and body like a Washington Wizards player. As a student, you also are working hard in school! Winter Challenge is here to help you think like a Washington Wizard by finding ways to read, move and connect each day. Participating is easy, simply:
-
Register | Pick up your Winter Challenge gameboard at your Neighborhood Library or sign up online through Beanstack.
-
Earn Badges | Once you have signed up you can begin earning badges! Record your progress on your gameboard or in Beanstack!
-
Win Prizes | Complete your gameboard and turn it in to your neighborhood library or earn all of your badges in Beanstack to be put in the running for a Washington Wizards Family Prize Pack and tickets to a Washington Wizards Game!

![Public Square Speaker Series](https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/DCLIBRARY/2023/01/6938335/placeholder-web-header-the-public-square-speaker-se_original.png) In celebration of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library's 50th anniversary, the DC Public Library is launching The Public Square in partnership with the DC Public Library Foundation and Pepco: An Exelon Company. The Public Square, like public libraries are "third places" in our communities. They are social spaces that helps us cultivate our sense of belonging outside of our first place, our homes and our second place, our workplace. They are spaces that foster good conversation and connection, where we can both learn from others and share our own knowledge.
Through moderated discussions, The Public Square will realize this idea of libraries as a third place by connecting leaders and innovators with the public to talk about the next phase of their work or scholarship.

Gabby Rivera | Saturday, Mar. 4, 3 p.m. Hear from Pulitzer-prize-winning author Gabby Rivera. Charismatic and charming, Gabby Rivera is dedicated to empowering people and improving our marginalized communities. She made major waves for her Marvel series starring America Chavez: a queer, Latinx superhero who’s been written and designed, crucially, by a queer Latinx. Gabby shows how our differences are a gift—one that empowers us to inspire others and tell new and unique stories. No matter who you are or where you’re from, Gabby champions telling your own story as a form of love and revolution. |
