Explore the world with your kids at this year’s Kids Euro Fest. The best part? You don’t even have to leave D.C.! Join us at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library on Satuday, Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. as we kick off Kids Euro Fest 2022 with the Delegation of the European Union in the U.S. Experience the rich traditions, art, and culture of countries around the EU. Highlights of the day include:
- History workshops and video games from Italy
- Beekeeping lessons from Slovenia
- A DJ workshop from the Netherlands
- Hans Christian Andersen readings from Denmark
- Dance performances from Ireland
- An ornament craft workshop from Lithuania
- European trivia, arts, crafts, and more!
After the Family Day we invite you to come back for other great family events, including a concert with Finnish modern folk band, Kardemimmit on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 3 p.m.

 Something wicked (or cute, or silly) this way comes… We are heading into the Fall and it is time for the DC Public Library’s Second Annual Evil Laugh Contest. Get excited for spooky season by submitting your best evil laugh! Participation is easy - from now until Oct. 21 submit a 10-second video of yourself doing your most wicked, spine-tingling evil laugh. We’ll compile the videos for everyone to enjoy and winners can pick up a prize at their local participating library. Anyone can enter, so get grandparents, neighbors, or even your mail person involved!

 Are you or someone you know working toward a GED? In order to take the official GED Exam in D.C. you must first take and get a certain score on the GED Ready Practice Test. You can take any of the four subject area tests, including Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and Math for FREE at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library!
The Adult Learning Department has timeslots open for walk-ins to take the test on Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. and Thursdays from 5 - 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age and bring a photo ID with your address to take the test. We recommend arriving 15 minutes before the start time so you can sign in with Library staff.

 Like having fun while making an impact? Join Game Genius for their 4th annual puzzle hunt in Washington D.C. that celebrates local literacy organizations by solving a fun mystery. Teams of 2-5 are encouraged to sign up together. Once registered, there are two ways to play:

Team Contest: On Oct. 1 at 10:30 a.m., race against other teams to solve the mystery

Self-Directed: From Oct. 2-10, finish the hunt at your own pace
