Last October marked the official kick-off for the Family First Prevention Services Act along with policy and funding shifts such as limiting placement in non-family settings like group homes and residential childcare facilities. While we know this is a step in the right direction because a family setting is the most therapeutic and least disruptive setting for youth needing foster care services, we must, as a community, step up to meet the needs of youth who need specialized care.
Our Foster Care Unit has recently launched a new program to help our community provide specialized Therapeutic Foster Care for our Weld County youth. Therapeutic Foster Homes will be supported with a step up in services, training, and support to help meet the unique needs of youth requiring this type of care.
Please consider becoming a Therapeutic Foster Parent if you are experienced in fostering and/or meeting various special needs around mental health challenges and/or developmental delays due to trauma, abuse, or neglect. And help us spread the word! Please don't hesitate to get in touch with your Foster Care Coordinator or me if you are interested in learning more about Therapeutic Foster Care.

Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) – The Ideal Response
When a child from a hard place doesn't feel safe, the result is often behaviors that appear willful, baffling, and infuriating to caregivers. How we respond is critical. Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®) has developed a guideline to help.
Watch this video as we walk through the IDEAL Response© for dealing with behaviors and building connection between the child and caregiver.
