Foster Care: Everyone Can Do Something!
Weld County foster families provide our community with a valuable service to youth from hard places. At-risk youth require specialized parenting to help them form relationships with trusted adults who can walk alongside them in their situation. Foster parents must become “trauma informed,” or “trauma responsive,” to form effective relational connections that can help encourage and influence their youth in positive ways. All Weld County foster parents attend at least 24 hours of training by the National Trauma and Development Curriculum, plus ongoing training and connection opportunities, provided by Weld County’s Foster Care Unit, called Roundtables. These Roundtables provide a way for foster families to continue adding tools to their specialized parenting toolkit as well as an opportunity to connect with other foster parents and professionals who can offer support, encouragement, and comradery. You may also be able to help support our foster families and their youth by volunteering to help with childcare during the once-a-month Roundtable meetings on Thursday nights!
