Presentations/Discussion/Announcements
-
Civic Area Update
- The Town Council saw a refined version of the preferred option for the Town of Vail municipal site and heard an economic analysis with preliminary cost and revenue projections. The presentation also included a summary of the input gathered from meetings with the Civic Area Taskforce and the larger community held during the past month. Staff will return with additional economic information and will begin gathering information for a draft RFP.
-
Dobson Ice Arena Remodel Update
-
The project team gave an update on the design progress, construction cost trends and planned schedule for the Dobson Ice Arena remodel. The Town Council was supportive of moving forward with submissions to the Planning and Environmental Commission and Design Review Board. While not currently in the budget, the applications will include the north bathrooms as an alternate should the Town Council decide to fund that portion of the project.
-
Winter Parking Plan
-
Staff provided an update on Parking & Mobility Task Force discussions regarding mobility and parking operations, and also provided recommendations for the 2024-2025 winter season. Council was supportive of the program, which will remain similar to last year with rates and pass types staying the same. A new pass sales and management software will be in place and all passholders will need to create a new portal. The town is encouraging people who live, work and recreate in Vail to use Core Transit and the Town of Vail Bus Systems as their preferred method of transportation. Communications efforts will center on promoting new and increased free and low-cost transit services now in place; and ensuring late night/early morning employees are aware of their options to avoid an overnight charge when they are working. In addition, after a successful summer pilot program, the section of Frontage Road from the main Vail roundabout to Vail Valley Dr. will continue to be a no parking zone during overflow days.
-

-
As proposed, the amendments cover the definition of “Bus Operators” and “Loading and Unloading Areas.” It also requires each company to conspicuously display the name of the company to which the permit applies on each vehicle. Council was supportive.
