THIS MONTH'S SPOTLIGHTS
JOIN US! IN 2024
Libraries are full of stories in a variety of formats from picture books to large print, audiobooks to ebooks, and more.
There's so much more to the story. Library programming brings communities together for entertainment, education, and connection through book clubs, storytimes, movie nights, crafting classes, and lectures. Library infrastructure advances communities, providing internet and technology access, literacy skills, and support for businesses, job seekers, and entrepreneurs.
AMNESTY MONTH
April 1-30
Vail Public Library will be offering Amnesty Month for the entire month of April.
This is an effort to recover overdue library materials by offering a “fine free” month. The purpose of the amnesty is to encourage the return of needed library materials and to promote use of the library.
The amnesty does not include overdue fines still on record from previously returned materials, nor does it include fines for lost and/or damaged items.
While some materials are simply lost, a great many are still in the hands of the patrons who checked them out. The library hopes that our "no questions asked" amnesty period will remove an obstacle to the return of overdue items, including books and DVDs.
FREE SOLAR ECLIPSE GLASSES
Starting Monday, April 1st
April 8, 2024 will be the last total solar eclipse until 2044. This means the moon passes between the sun and the earth.
Vail Public Library will distribute these glasses under the following terms:
- Limited to one pair per family
- Must be present to get your glasses
- First come, First served.

I hope my photographs help people appreciate the wonder of Colorado’s wild places and animals -- cougars, moose, big horn sheep, elk, mule deer, ptarmigan, pikas, and wolves. As the world and the Vail Valley get more crowded, we need to co-exist with wildlife and help sustain healthy populations. The Rocky Mountains -- the largest mountain system in North America -- hold a special place in the human imagination. Revered by native peoples, feared by westward bound pioneers, loved by skiers, hikers, and visitors from around the world, the sharp, snow-capped peaks always captivate.
To celebrate the mountains and our wild creatures, the public is invited for tea and refreshments on Wednesday, April 3rd from 4:00 to 5:30 pm at the Vail Public Library.
