Step Into the Light
Meet local artist: Helen Hiebert
Helen has created a paper lantern installation that is currently hanging in our library.
"Step into the light " is a giant paper lantern that hangs in the library’s Galleria. Viewers are invited to step inside the lantern and ponder how they can ‘be light’. When they step out of the lantern, they are prompted to think about how they can share their light in their communities.

"Dear Martin" by Nic Stone
"Justyce McAllister is top of his class at Braselton Prep, captain of the debate team, and set for an Ivy League school next year- but none of that matters to the police officer who just put him in handcuffs. Justyce has studied the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. but do they hold up now? He starts a journal to Dr. King to find out. Then Justyce goes driving with his best friend, Manny, windows rolled down, music turned up. Much to the fury of the white off-duty cop beside them. Words fly, shots are fired, and Justyce and Manny are caught in the crosshairs In the media fallout, it's Justyce who is under attack."

EXTRAS
Kevin Foley served on the Vail Town Council for twenty-three years. His town council terms of service were 1995 to 2001, 2009 to 2013 and 2015 to 2023. In his inaugural town council bid in 1995, Foley was the top vote-getter. The 1995 race featured “the Fabulous Four,” which was a collection of young, “working-class” men whose hallmarks included “fair, honest and open” values.
ART @ YOUR LIBRARY
Vail Public Library proudly displays local artists’ work in our Community Room on a rotating schedule. Public viewing is available during library hours.
The art on display for the month of February is:
Julie Graham
"I loved making art as a child, growing up in St. Johnsbury, VT, but as I got older, I became more inhibited and critical of my work, so I focused on academics and a career in health care. While reevaluating my life 4 years ago, I decided to make art a priority, and started taking oil painting classes in Honolulu. I moved to the Vail Valley 2 years ago, and have continued taking art classes, and pursuing my artistic goals.
I like to paint what I see, trying to capture exact details and likenesses, to make my pictures look as real as possible. Recently I’ve enjoyed being less restrictive, letting go of my perfectionist tendencies, and getting into the flow, even painting abstract images. When I let go of control and rigidity, I’m able to be in the present moment, which is where I find peace, inspiration, and joy."
