JULY'S PROGRAMS AND EVENTS FOR ADULTS
EVENINGS OF ENGAGEMENT WITH BUDDY MONDLOCK
WEDNESDAY, JULY 19 | 5:30 P.M.
Evenings of Engagement is a series of events aimed at adults, with the purpose of offering exciting, interesting, fun or educational experiences.
Join us! in the library's Community Room for this engaging concert featuring:
Buddy Mondlock
Buddy Mondlock writes songs. He does it so well that some great songwriters have recorded his songs on their own albums. He draws you into his world – where a single snowflake follows the trajectory of a relationship, where you get your pocket picked by a Roman cat, where you might swim over the edge of the world if you’re not careful, and where dreams that don’t come true still count.
EVENINGS OF ENGAGEMENT WITH NATALIE SPEARS
WEDNESDAY, JULY 26 | 5:30 P.M.
Join us! in the library's Community Room for this engaging concert featuring
Natalie Spears
Natalie Spears brings listeners in touch with the warmth of community, the quiet awe of wild places, and the intimate corners of humanity. Inspired by her father’s English Folk heritage and talents as a Jazz pianist, Natalie carries a deep love for porch-picking music and music that swings. Drawing on these roots and pulling from a quiver of instruments (banjo, bass, piano, and guitar), her sound is both nostalgic and contemporary, sassy and sweet, contemplative and playful.

Join us! this month when we will discuss the book ”The Paper Palace" by Miranda Cowley Heller
It is a perfect July morning, and Elle, a fifty-year-old happily married mother of three, awakens at "The Paper Palace"—the family summer place which she has visited every summer of her life. But this morning is different: last night Elle and her oldest friend Jonas crept out the back door into the darkness and had sex with each other for the first time, all while their spouses chatted away inside. Now, over the next twenty-four hours, Elle will have to decide between the life she has made with her genuinely beloved husband, Peter, and the life she always imagined she would have had with her childhood love, Jonas, if a tragic event hadn't forever changed the course of their lives. As Heller colors in the experiences that have led Elle to this day, we arrive at her ultimate decision with all its complexity. Tender yet devastating, The Paper Palace considers the tensions between desire and dignity, the legacies of abuse, and the crimes and misdemeanors of families.

VAIL ROUNDABOUT
HISTORY NUGGET WITH ROB LEVINE & TONY MAURO: VAIL VALLEY VOICES
Rob LeVine served on the Vail Town Council from 1989 to 1993. During his tenure, Vail town engineer, Greg Hall, and transportation consultant, Arnie Ullevig, proposed a creative solution to traffic backups at Vail's former four-way stop off I-70.
LeVine discussed the controversy and resolution of Vail's initial roundabout. It has been described as the first modern roundabout in North America.
ART @ YOUR LIBRARY
Vail Public Library proudly displays local artists’ work in our Community Room on a rotating schedule. Public viewing is available during library hours.
The art on display for the month of July is:
Veteran Art Show, courtesy of Jackie Allen-Benson
The exhibit is a collaboration between the Vail Valley Art Guild (VVAG) and Eagle County Veterans Services.
“Art has always been valued in my family,” said Assistant Veterans Service Officer Jackie Allen-Benson, who conceived of the idea for the art show. “As a veteran, my first art was landscape design for which I attended school on the GI Bill. Like many veterans, art is an incredible coping mechanism for dealing with the stresses of life.”
The exhibit coincides with the Vail America Days celebration hosted by the Town of Vail. The artwork will be on display and available for viewing during normal library hours throughout the month of July.
The VVAG has been active in the valley since 2014. Their role for this event is curating, hanging, and sponsoring the event for the veterans in our valley.
THIS MONTH'S DATABASE HIGHLIGHT
Diverse genealogy databases providing access to billions of historical documents, millions of historical photos and other resources in thousands of databases that span the past five centuries. Available with your Vail Public Library card.
