Site Visit to Residences at Main Vail

Council members attended the Residences at Main Vail topping off celebration. The development will provide 72 new deed-restricted rental homes for locals and will be available for occupancy in 2023.

Destination Stewardship Plan Review Part 3 and 4
-
Council reviewed the second two pillars of the proposed Steward Vail plan: “Invigorate Vail's Spirit” and “Advance Vail Stewardship as a Global Model.” The plan centers on how the tourism economy connects with the life of the Vail community and the natural environment and how to create thriving conditions for all. Council discussions on the plan will continue over the next several meetings.

West Middle Creek Land Use Plan Amendment and Rezoning

An amendment to the Vail Land Use Plan Map and rezonings within the Middle Creek Subdivision were presented to the council as changes needed to enable the future development of housing at the West Middle Creek site. Both actions were highly supported by council given the critical need for local homes.

Statewide Bag Fee
-
Statewide legislation requiring fees on single use bags throughout Colorado goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2023. Vail will increase its existing bag fee to 25 cents per bag, with 60% of the fee to be retained by the businesses.
Actions as a Result of Executive Session

Resolutions 60 and 61, approving the purchase of two residential units for the town’s housing program, were updated on the evening agenda.
Public Comment

Robyn Smith is expressed a critical need within the community to make fentanyl test strips and Narcan widely available, particularly in bars and at events.

Dave Chapin addressed some of the themes and ideas that came up during review of the Destination Stewardship plan earlier in the day. He is also brought up issues with paid overnight parking starting at 4 p.m. when some workers are still on the job.
Town Manager Report

Public Works Director Greg Hall gave an update on parking operations in town. All levels of the Red Sandstone Garage will be open starting this weekend following repairs. Town Manager Russell Forrest solidified plans for a council mini retreat on Jan. 17.
