Evenings of Engagement is a series of events aimed at adults, with the purpose of offering exciting, interesting, fun or educational experiences.

Rupert Wates
Rupert Wates was born in London and studied at Oxford University. In the late 1990s, he signed a publishing deal with Eaton Music and worked for several years as their house songwriter. He moved to Paris in 2001, formed his own quartet and performed regularly in the city's clubs. He came to the U.S. in the fall of 2006. Since then he has received more than forty songwriting and performing awards. His music is an eclectic mix of acoustic, and melodic art/folk, with flavors of jazz, vaudeville and cabaret. Despite Wates' British background, and underpinning the universality of his music's appeal, Folk and Acoustic Music Exchange has called him "a prime figure in American music''.
Bring your own chair, this event will be held outdoors on our back lawn. You can bring your own food and beverages.
Depending on the weather forecast, the location of the event will be changed to the library's Community Room.

"When, in 1922, thirty-year-old Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, he is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel near the Kremlin. An indomitable man of erudition and wit, Rostov must now live in an attic room as some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history unfold. Unexpectedly, the Count’s reduced circumstances provide him entry into a world of emotional discovery as he forges friendships with the hotel’s denizens. But when fate puts the life of a young girl in his hands, he must draw on all his ingenuity to protect the future she deserves. Hailed for its humor, intrigue, and beautifully rendered scenes, this singular novel casts a spell as it relates the Count’s endeavor to become a man of purpose."

After graduating from the University of Nebraska with a major in Art, Milhoan attended graduate school at the University of California - Santa Barbara. During the 1960s, Milhoan relocated to Vail. ART @ YOUR LIBRARY
Vail Public Library proudly displays local artists’ work in our Community Room on a rotating schedule. Public viewing is available during library hours.
The art on display for the month of July is by local artist, Jacqui Allen Benson.
Local Artist, Jacqui Allen-Benson, paints primarily in oil, getting her inspiration from her faith and the beautiful Colorado Landscape. After serving in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, she attended college where she studied Horticultural Science with a particular emphasis on Soil Science and Landscape Design. After moving to Colorado in 1978 she was drawn to Faith-based social work. After spending many years in that profession, she joined her husband Hugo Benson in their printing business, OG Printer in Gypsum, where she has worked for the past 19 years. She has been occasionally using her professional design, gardening and self-taught painting skills for stress relief. Her subject matter consists mostly of local spots that she re-landscapes in her paintings to suit herself trying to show you all the faces sharing this world with you. Currently, Jacqui is a Veteran Service Officer in Eagle County.
If you are interested in displaying your work, please contact Sandy Rivera at 970-479-2331 or SRivera@vailgov.com
