VIRTUAL BOOKS 'N BITES
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 8 | 5:00 P.M. VIA ZOOM
Join us! for this month's Virtual Book Club via Zoom when we will discuss the book "The Overstory" by Richard Powers
The Overstory is a sweeping, impassioned work of activism and resistance that is also a stunning evocation of – and paean to – the natural world. From the roots to the crown and back to the seeds, Richard Powers' twelfth novel unfolds in concentric rings of interlocking fables that range from antebellum New York to the late twentieth-century Timber Wars of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. There is a world alongside ours—vast, slow, interconnected, resourceful, magnificently inventive, and almost invisible to us. This is the story of a handful of people who learn how to see that world and who are drawn up in its unfolding catastrophe.
Email Lori at LBarnes@vailgov.com to receive an invitation to the Zoom meeting.
VIRTUAL GENTLE YOGA
EVERY MONDAY, WEDNESDAY AND FRIDAY | 11:30 A.M.
Please welcome Kim Brodin as the library's new Gentle Yoga instructor. Kim is an Eagle County native who grew up in Minturn and now lives in the Red Sandstone area of Vail. Kim's background also includes 12 years in education, and she hopes to incorporate playful language, nature, and quotes into the healthy movements of your yoga practice.
Email Sandy at SRivera@vailgov.com to receive an invitation to the Zoom meeting.
 FRIDAY, JUNE 10 | 11:30 A.M.

EXTRAS
BARBARA MOONEY ORAL HISTORY: VAIL VALLEY VOICES
Barbara Casto Mooney was born 23 February 1926 in Salt Lake City to Raymond and Gertrude Casto. While in high school, she learned to ski at Alta, Utah during the era of "leather boots, bear-trap bindings and wooden skis" (Vail Daily 23 Mar 2006). She graduated from the University of Utah where she was named “Snow Queen.” After marrying Albert Mooney, the couple moved to Applewood, Colorado in 1958. The Mooney couple raised six children together.
In 1961, the Mooney family built “Casa de Luna” in Vail. From 1978 to 2010, Vail was the primary Mooney residence. While living in Vail, Barbara Mooney was an important advocate for children’s education. She volunteered at the Vail Valley Medical Center, Vail Interfaith Chapel and for the annual classical music festival, Bravo! Vail.
Barbara Mooney crafted a square for the Vintage Vail Quilt and was instrumental in its design and creation. The Vintage Vail Quilt visually describes Vail’s history and heritage; it is curated and housed at Vail Public Library. Mooney also celebrated the beauty and diversity among cultures and enjoyed travel, tennis, and art. Mooney actively skied until 87 years of age and enjoyed her final Uintah Mountain Range hike at age 90.
ART @ YOUR LIBRARY
Vail Public Library proudly displays local artists’ work in our Community Room on a rotating schedule. Public viewing is available during library hours.
The art on display for the month of June is by local artist, Pushpa Sunder Mehta, M.D.
My art is an expression of my heart and soul; a search for “Truth” and an admiration for nature and life. I want my art to be purposeful, free and inspiring. The will to continue with my art comes from the Loving Heavenly Voice that tells me “keep up with your art”. The driving force in my fingers to hold the brush and create original art is a gift of “True Love” from my family. As I progress on the path of an artistic pilgrim, I seek to engage viewers into an artistic consciousness to love and respect Mother Earth.
If you are interested in displaying your work, please contact Sandy Rivera at 970-479-2331 or SRivera@vailgov.com
