BUILDING DEPARTMENT UPDATES |
|
INSPECTIONS UNAVAILABLE
During the week of March 7-11, 2022, Building Department personnel will be attending code compliance training. The training is a requirement for certification and allows for inspection staff to receive up-to-date information on new codes, technologies, materials, and compliance paths and alternatives. Therefore, during the training week, no inspection services will be available. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and truly appreciate your understanding.
2021 CODE UPDATES - JUNE 2022
The 2021 editions of the International Codes have been published and are currently being reviewed for potential adoption. The codes are discussed during the Building & Fire Code Appeals Board (BFCAB) meetings which occur on the second Thursday of every month. Take a look at the Town of Vail website for more information on how to attend these public meetings and become involved in the code adoption discussions. Prior to adoption, there will be code training available for the community.

FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATES
SPRINKLER/ALARM INSPECTIONS UNAVAILABLE
Sprinkler inspections will not be performed Monday, February 21 - Friday, February 25, and no Alarm inspections will occur Wednesday, February 23 - Friday, February 25.
FIRE FREE FIVE
One of the most vulnerable elements of any structure to wildfire is the first five feet of landscaping which surrounds the building. This area acts as a natural trap for embers, accumulating them in dangerously close proximity to the building. If this area contains flammable vegetation such a bushes, firewood, or flammable items, these embers may cause the ignition of the structure. In areas of high density this one burning structure may rapidly spread to many causing a chain reaction of loss.
To decrease this potential Vail Fire and Emergency Services has proposed regulations that will require all structures in Vail to create a “Fire Free Five”. This would require that all structures in the Town of Vail create and maintain an ignition resistant landscaping feature from the foundation wall extending 5 feet from the structure.
