County grant supports South Pool solar improvements
The Town of Superior was awarded $29,966 from the Boulder County 2026 Environmental Sustainability Matching Grants, which supports projects and policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions or improve climate resiliency. The Town will use these funds to replace solar inverters at the South Pool, restoring the pool solar array’s functionality.
The Environmental Sustainability Matching Grant Program is funded by the voter-approved Sustainability Tax, a 0.125% sales and use tax that funds local sustainability initiatives through 2034. You can view all eight awarded municipalities and their projects on the County’s official press release.

Power Ahead Colorado connects residents and contractors to clean energy solutions
Power Ahead Colorado, an ambitious multi-year program led by the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) to improve air quality, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and support residents with home electrification, officially launched!
This effort is funded by a historic $199 million federal grant that provides homeowners, businesses, and building owners with a trusted path to healthier, energy-efficient heating and cooling through right-sized heat pumps, expert advising, vetted installers, and rebate support.

Information on rebates and more will be available to the public in late spring of this year.

Winter water now saves plants later
Colorado is a naturally semi-arid environment, but your garden may need more attention this year due to this especially dry and windy winter.
Extended dry spells, low humidity, and fluctuating temperatures can stress young root systems in the winter months too. While plants may appear normal come spring, their weakened condition leaves them more susceptible to insects and diseases as temperatures rise.
Occasional winter watering can help new and recently established plants survive until spring, particularly during mild, snow-free periods like we’ve been experiencing in the state. It is recommended to water once or twice a month through April, and to prioritize new perennial plants when all of the following are true:
- The air temperature is above 40°F
- The soil isn’t frozen
- There is no snow cover
- There is no snow or precipitation in the forecast

The Buy Nothing Project helps neighbors share and reduce waste
As spring cleaning approaches, consider finding a new home for what you no longer need by giving items to your neighbors through your local gift economy, like the Buy Nothing Project. A “gift economy” is when goods and services are given freely without payment or quid pro quo.
The Buy Nothing Project is an international, grassroots, volunteer-driven movement to build community and reduce waste by giving and getting stuff completely for free. Superior residents can join the “Buy Nothing Louisville & Superior, Colorado” Facebook group, or sign up directly on the Buy Nothing Project website.
Once you’re a member, you can start viewing and posting Gives, Asks, and gratitude:
- Give: Share items, skills, or time with people nearby
- Ask: Request anything you need – no cost, no strings
- Gratitude: Celebrate and share the generosity of the Buy Nothing Project community
