Boulder County Sheriff's Animal Protection Unit reminds community to leash their dogs
Leash laws are important for maintaining a safe and respectful environment for dogs, people and wildlife. These laws impact not only individual dogs and wildlife but also residents and the Town because various issues can arise from dogs being unrestrained.
Please be mindful of the signs posted around town and in open spaces. Your pet must be on a leash and under control at all times. As an owner, it's your responsibility to clean up after your pet immediately and stay on the designated path or trail. The only location where your dog can be off-leash is inside the dog park. Once you leave the dog park, you must have your dog on a leash again.
Here are a few reasons to consider adhering to these laws:
- Dogs that are off-leash can engage in physical confrontations with other dogs, cats, or wildlife and can become injured.
- They are at a higher risk of contracting illnesses and disease from wildlife or other animals, especially when they are off-trail and not under your control.
- They can run into the roadway and get struck by a vehicle or cause an accident.
- Unrestrained dogs may be approached by someone that puts them in an uncomfortable situation, causing them to bite.
The Town offers two local dog parks for off-leash fun: Autrey Park Dog Park located at 1830 Honey Creek Drive and the new Central Park Dog Park located at the corner of Superior Drive and Central Park Way, just south of the Sport Stable in Downtown Superior.
People using public spaces appreciate you being a responsible owner and positive ambassador for dogs!
