Welcome to the Superior Sentinel!
Each year, the Town spends a significant percentage of its total capital improvement plan budget on the 42 miles of roads in Superior. From general maintenance to full roadway reconstruction, the Town keeps regular tabs on the conditions of our roads so we can plan and budget on our road projects.
Over the past several years, the Town Board would typically authorize one or two roadway projects every other year. This year, however, the Board is being more aggressive. We are tackling multiple road projects and are also in the midst of planning for substantial reconstruction of Rock Creek Parkway in 2024.
Our first project is already underway: reconstructing Indiana Street between Coalton Road and North Torreys Peak Drive. We will soon be starting a cape seal project for McCaslin Boulevard between Coalton Road and Rock Creek Parkway. Lastly, we will be reconstructing Coalton Road between McCaslin Boulevard and Indiana Street. All projects are expected to be completed by late October.
Stay tuned for additional communication from the Town as these projects get underway.
Respectfully, Mayor Mark Lacis

Go solar with the Boulder County Solar Co-op
Have you ever thought about putting solar panels on your roof? Boulder County has partnered with nonprofit Solar United Neighbors (SUN) to bring residents the Boulder County Solar Co-op this fall, which is a free group to help you go solar. This program is similar to the Town's previous Solarize Superior program, but now on a larger scale!
The Boulder County Solar Co-op will help Boulder County homeowners and small business owners learn about solar together and purchase solar panels at a group rate from a single installer.
Together, co-op members will learn about solar energy and leverage their numbers to get competitive pricing and quality solar installations. After a competitive bidding process facilitated by SUN, a group of volunteers from the co-op will select a solar company to complete the co-op's installations.
Want to learn more? Join Boulder County, SUN, the Town of Superior and other municipalities at the co-op launch event on Sept.18 starting at 6 p.m. in the Lafayette Public Library (775 Baseline Road). Find more details and RSVP here.

Town installs wayfinding direction trail signs
The Public Works & Utilities Department is working to install directional signage & markings on the Rock Creek Trail, the Coal Creek Trail, and the newly installed leg of the U.S. 36 Bikeway.
Bids have been received for the project and work is scheduled to start in September. The signage will direct trail users to area destinations such as civic facilities, trail connections, and shopping areas.

Keep sidewalks safe with proper drainage
While it is good practice to get water away from the foundation of your home, discharge to a sidewalk can create standing water and pose a number of safety hazards, possibly resulting in a Town Code violation.
Standing water can lead to algae growth in the summer and ice in the winter, creating slipping hazards to pedestrians. While other solutions may exist, the Town of Superior allows the installation of chase drains in sidewalks to address issues of excess runoff. With instances of improper drainage, the property owner will be responsible for performing the work to bring their runoff systems to Town standards.
Residents may be eligible for up to 50% reimbursement of the costs, and should contact the Public Works Department to learn more. To learn more about chase drains, please read the Town’s chase drains guiding document.

Youths ages 19 and under ride free until Aug. 31, 2024, during RTD's Zero Fare for Youth program
Commuting Solutions and the Regional Transportation District (RTD) are excited to partner on Zero Fare for Youth, an initiative designed to encourage transit usage for a future generation of transit users. Starting Sept. 1, youth ages 19 and under can enjoy the convenience of using RTD services at no cost until Aug. 31, 2024, by simply presenting a valid student or government-issued ID. Other valid forms of ID can be found on the RTD website.
Using public transportation can lead to substantial cost savings, enabling families and students to allocate their resources more efficiently. Additionally, transit enhances mobility, increases accessibility and encourages independence and flexibility.
Transit can, of course, be used for daily commutes to school and work, but RTD also provides services that make connections to entertainment and sports venues, popular shopping and restaurant districts offering a well-rounded and diverse transit experience for young customers. By reducing the need for private vehicles, public transit offers a safe and convenient solution to get customers where they need to go.
