Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport Noise Abatement Update
Town of Superior Trustee Jason Serbu and members of the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport Community Noise Roundtable are working with a consultant to identify and map noise-sensitive areas around Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport and propose potential noise mitigation measures.
Update from Trustee Jason Serbu: On Wednesday, July 26, we saw a standing-room-only crowd of concerned Superior residents learn about the proposed flight path maps that Trustee Jason Serbu and local aviation experts have been working on in an effort to reduce the noise issues in the skies above Superior. These maps are a first step to begin the process of making changes in a positive manner for residents and pilots.
The following day, Trustee Serbu visited RMMA to meet with the first flight school and review the viability of the maps, and take a flight with an instructor afterward. The meeting went very well, as the maps were analyzed by aviation professionals and the merits and opportunities were discussed at length. The following flight gave Trustee Serbu a first-hand look at take-off procedure, climbing to altitude and what these proposed paths could look like.
The next step in the process is to revise the maps per the recommendations discussed at the meeting and get them vetted by flight controllers and then the FAA.

Regarding the proposed VFR flight path changes maps, here are a few clarifications:
- On the 30L takeoff toward Superior, the patterns for touch and go's are similar, and with more traffic in the air, the base leg turn extends further out but only extends over industrial, retail, commercial and office areas.
- On the 12R takeoff toward Westminster, under days of heavy traffic, the base leg turn will extend over the southern part of Superior, but the planes will be at a much higher altitude.
- Nighttime touch and go's could possibly be moved to the north runway which would remove traffic from Superior completely and will only occupy airspace over industrial, retail, commercial and office areas.
