Summer is here and extended time outdoors probably means that you've encountered an annoying mosquito bite.
Mosquitos are a fact of life on the Front Range and their bites can be more than just itchy. They can spread viruses that make you sick, or in rare cases, cause death.
The Town of Superior lies within the Boulder County Mosquito Control District (BCMCD) established in 1995 by the Board of County Commissioners to protect residents from the health risks, annoyance, and discomfort associated with mosquitoes. More than 94% of the program is biological and physical control of mosquito larvae prior to adult emergence.
BCMCP is one of the most environmentally-conscious programs in the nation. Mosquito control services in Boulder County (and Town of Superior) are contracted to a private company, Vector Disease Control International (VDCI). Visit superiorcolorado.gov to learn more about mosquito control efforts within town limits.
Remember the Four D's to minimize mosquito annoyance:
1. Limiting outdoor activities between DUSK and DAWN 2. DRESS in long-sleeved shirts and long pants while outdoors 3. Using insect repellent that contains DEET 4. DRAIN standing water from around structures
