The CAPS committee is proud to host the 2022 En Plein Air Painting Festival on October 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Purple Park (1310 S. Pitkin Avenue). Plein air painting, painting outdoors, was essential to many impressionist artists' work, such as Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir.
During the event, the public will be invited to stroll around the park to watch over a dozen artists create their masterpieces. Additionally, a separate activity station will be available for youth and other participants who would like to try their hand at painting. Music, food and other activities will be available at this artful fall event.

The CAPS committee has announced an upcoming public art acquisition, the sculptural series Hidden Treasures by artist Scottie Burgess! The series of seven cast bronze hands holding large gem crystals were initially on loan to the town as part of the ARTery art path pilot project. Because residents have come to adore locating the hidden artworks installed both inside and outside the vicinity of the Superior Community Center, CAPS felt that Hidden Treasures would be a great addition to the Town’s public art collection. Come treasure hunting to find them all!

Did you know that in the western United States, over half of the potable water is used on landscapes? To alleviate this problem, the Town is implementing Xeriscaping - a beautiful, water-saving approach to landscaping in our challenging climate and with our limited water resources. You may have already seen crews replacing water-loving sod with water-wise plants to maintain an attractive landscape design. The removed sod will be repurposed for other areas in town. This project reduces water consumption, water run-off and increases worker safety on and around the Town’s medians.

Upcoming Sidewalk Closures in Downtown Superior
Carmel is now working on Blocks six, seven, and the north portions of Blocks nine, ten and 11. Remington is constructing townhomes on the southern portions of Blocks nine, ten and 11. Since there are zero setbacks from the sidewalks adjacent to Blocks nine, ten and 11, construction will entail closure of the sidewalks surrounding these blocks as indicated in red on the graphic below. There is a new sidewalk available along the north side of Old Rail Way from Promenade Drive to Gateway Drive, and along Gateway Drive, from Old Rail Way to Main Street as indicated in green below.
Carmel’s work on Blocks nine, ten and 11 will extend into 2023 while Remington will open sidewalks once its adjacent construction is safely out of the way of pedestrian paths. This should start happening by mid-summer.

On the east end, the trail be constructed from the existing underpass of W. Flatiron Crossing Drive west through Autry Park to Rock Creek Parkway and turn north to 88th Street. The total project length will be about 7,000 feet. The work within Autry Park was substantially completed in mid-July and the portion along Rock Creek Parkway will be under construction in August. Sustainability News
Have you taken the pledge to protect Colorado water for future generations? Water 22 has identified 22 ways to conserve up to 22 gallons of water a day in 2022. If every Coloradan follows the pledge, we can save close to 48 billion gallons per year!
Here are some of the tips:
- Use a broom, not a hose, to clear debris from sidewalks and driveways.
- Put waste like tissues, dead insects and other items in the trash rather than flushing down the toilet. Every flush avoided saves about 1.5 gallons. What about expired or unused medicine? Don’t flush it! Check out the CDPHE’s Colorado Household Medication Take Back Program.
- Wash your car at a commercial car wash instead of in the street or driveway. Car washes recycle and treat the water, which conserves water and helps avoids soapy water going into storm drains.
- The best time of day to irrigate is between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
If you're interested in saving money and improving your sprinkler system, Resource Central’s Slow the Flow program offers on-site sprinkler audits free of charge!

RV Campers Urged to Monitor Carbon Monoxide
Camping or spending time in an RV this summer?
Please be aware of carbon monoxide (CO) is an odorless gas created when fuels burn incompletely. CO levels from barbeque grills or portable generators can increase quickly in enclosed spaces, so campers should keep and use these items in well-ventilated areas to avoid fumes leaking into the vents of RVs and tents.
Symptoms of CO poisoning may include headache, nausea, and drowsiness. Extremely high levels of poisoning can be fatal. Anyone who suspects they are suffering from CO poisoning should immediately move to a fresh air location and call 911. Install and maintain CO alarms inside homes, campers, and RVs to provide early warning of CO. Read more here” with Learn more about motor home, camper and recreational vehicle safety in an informative PDF from Mountain View Fire Rescue.

Boulder County Moves from .org to .gov to Increase Protection
The Boulder County website has migrated from bouldercounty.org to bouldercounty.gov. All web content previously at bouldercounty.org, including all its subpages, now automatically redirect to the bouldercounty.gov domain.
The county will also eventually move to dot gov email addresses for its staff in 2023. When this happens, the county, employees, and those who correspond with the county will have even higher levels of protection as it is difficult to impersonate dot gov email accounts.
