Nest boxes for small raptors have been installed in several locations in Superior. These are designed to improve breeding success for two species in particular: the American Kestrel, which is our smallest falcon, and the Eastern Screech-Owl, a nocturnal predator that’s barely bigger than a person’s hand. Both of these birds of prey begin courting and establishing territories in late winter and are already concentrating their activity around the nest boxes. Please give these pint-sized predators a little privacy as they pair up and begin raising their families - view them from nearby paved sidewalks rather than approaching the boxes.
