Aggressive Owl in Superior - Safety Tips
Please be aware there is an owl who is acting aggressively in Town. The approximate location of activity is a swath of the neighborhoods between Honey Creek Drive and Stoneham Street on the west side of 88th Street and east of Superior Elementary. Aggression may be occurring because of nesting season or because the owl may be injured.
If you are out between dusk and dawn when owls are most active please be aware of your surroundings especially in this area. Owls are very quiet, so you may not hear it coming if you're not looking around. If an owl comes towards you cover your face and head as best as you can with your hands and arms and try to put as much distance between you and the animal, they are unlikely to chase. Also, duck down and move in a zig zag pattern as owls are not agile flyers and rely on their silence.
Boulder County animal control officers are aware of this situation and are in communication with Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW). CPW officials will attempt to locate the nest and relocate it.
