Judge orders Rep. Lamborn to be put on ballot
DENVER, May 1, 2018 -- A U.S. District Court judge today ordered Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams to put Congressman Doug Lamborn's name on the June 26 primary ballot.
Judge Philip Brimmer said the secretary cannot enforce a state law that requires petition circulators be residents of Colorado. With that law struck, the six-term congressman had enough valid voter signatures to get on the ballot. His candidacy was in question after two separate courts ruled that some of his signatures couldn't be counted because they were collected by nonresidents.
"We will evaluate the case, but right now our focus is on an election that fast approaches. Ballots must be printed and sent to our military and overseas voters on May 12th," Deputy Secretary of State Suzanne Staiert said.
