House hopeful, regent candidate fail to make the primary ballot

DENVER, April 25, 2016 -- Secretary of State Wayne Williams announced today that state House hopeful Mark McIntosh and regent candidate Zachary Rothmier failed to make the primary ballot.

McIntosh was running for state House District 6 represented by Rep. Lois Court, D-Denver, who is term limited. He was required to submit 1,000 signatures from registered Democrats in the district, but came up short. Earlier this month, the secretary announced that another candidate for House District 6, Michele Fry, also failed to submit enough valid signatures.

Here is the signature breakdown for McIntosh.

  • Required: 1,000
  • Turned in: 1,168
  • Rejected:  204
  • Accepted: 964

Two other Democrats running for House District 6, Jeff Hart and Chris Hansen, got on the ballot through the assembly process.

In the regents race, Rothmier was running in Congressional District 1 for the University of Colorado Board of Regents seat held by Denver Democrat Michael Carrigan, who is term limited. Here is Rothmier's signature breakdown:

  • Required: 1,000
  • Turned in: 1,417
  • Rejected:  859
  • Accepted: 558

Another Democrat running for regent in Congressional District 1, Lucky Vidmar, also submitted petitions but then made it onto the ballot at his assembly so the signatures were not officially tabulated. A third Democrat running for the same seat, Jack Kroll, also made it on at the assembly.

The candidates have five days to protest the findings in Denver District Court.
