Recreation Center Expansion exterior rendering

Recreation Center Expansion Project Begins Construction

The Silverthorne Recreation Center expansion project has officially begun construction. Recreation Center patrons will notice equipment set up taking place in the expansion area, which is located in the rear of the facility.

Construction Impacts

A temporary construction wall will be built inside the facility during the week of April 28. The construction wall will impact the indoor track, which will be closed to regular track use during this construction phase. Part of the track will be available for access to cardio and circuit equipment, and for patrons to use while stretching, etc. The large heavy bag located off the track and by the circuit equipment will also be unavailable. All other areas of the Recreation Center, including the aquatics area, will not be impacted by construction at this time.

Parking

Community members visiting Rainbow Park will need to access the park via Rainbow Drive, the front parking lot of the Silverthorne Recreation Center, or the Rainbow Park parking lot off Rainbow Drive. Parking behind the Recreation Center for direct access to the Rainbow Park tot lot and volleyball courts will be closed during construction.

Expansion Highlights & Funding

The expansion is anticipated to add more than 24,000 square feet of functional space, including licensed school-aged care, a multi-activity court (MAC) gymnasium, expanded weight room space, a viewing/lounge overlooking the MAC gymnasium, two new multi-use rooms, and storage/administrative space.

The Recreation Center Expansion Project is funded by the Town of Silverthorne's 8% lodging tax.

Project Updates

The expansion project at the Silverthorne Recreation Center will take place from Spring 2025 to Fall 2026. Construction impacts on the facility will vary throughout the project's different phases. Visit the project webpage for updates and the latest expansion project information.

Ruby Ranch Traffic Light

The Town of Silverthorne is excited to announce the start of construction for the new Ruby Ranch traffic light. The new light will be located at the intersection of Ruby Ranch Rd. and Blue River Parkway, providing improved safety and access to the neighborhoods of Smith Ranch, Ruby Ranch and Blue River Run, and area businesses. The new light will also provide safe pedestrian crossings for nearby neighborhoods to access the Blue River Trail.

Construction of the new traffic signal began earlier this month with the concrete bases for the signal poles. Roadwork will begin in mid-May and will last until mid-July. The steel traffic poles are anticipated to arrive late summer, and once installed, the Town will work with the Colorado Department of Transportation to activate the new traffic light. The new Ruby Ranch traffic light is expected to be functioning by fall 2025.

Temporary one-lane closures and detours will occur at various times throughout construction. All lane closures and detours will be flagged and signed to notify travelers.

Silverthorne to Begin Installing New Bear Proof Trash Cans

The Town of Silverthorne received a grant from Colorado Parks and Wildlife to install new bear-proof trash cans in Town parks and along Town trails. This grant allows the Town to provide a safer way for community members to dispose of trash in public spaces, while protecting our wild neighbors.

As bears begin to emerge from winter hibernation, residents need to remember to be bear aware and to always securely store garbage to prevent bears from scavenging. Never leave trash or recyclables out overnight. Bird feeders are also appealing to bears because they are convenient calorie sources, so be sure to remove all bird feeders from April to November when bears are most active. Leaving attractants, like trash cans and bird feeders out where they are accessible to bears violates state law.
