Winter in Silverthorne
Winter is in full swing in Silverthorne and there are countless activities to enjoy around town! Check out some of our favorite winter activities below for a fun day with friends and family.
-
Sledding: Enjoy the simple pleasures of winter with a day of sledding at Rainbow Park or Maryland Creek Park. Families with little ones will want to head to Rainbow Park for its smaller and gentler slopes, while older kids and adults will want to try the larger hill at Maryland Creek Park.
-
Snowshoeing: Snow enthusiasts have a host of snowshoeing adventures accessible via the area’s myriads of trailheads. Check out Acorn Creek, Salt Lick Trail, or Lily Pad Lake for an adventurous day in the woods; visit Wild Ernest Sports or Blue Valley Ski & Board Rentals if you need to rent a pair of snowshoes.
-
Nordic Skiing at The Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks: Take in the mountain views around Silverthorne at the free Nordic Center at the Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks. The Nordic Center features two courses for Nordic skiers and snowshoers. No sledding, skiing, or snowboarding is allowed at the Raven Golf Club, and no walking or dogs are allowed on the snowshoe and Nordic trails. If you need cross country skis, head to Gore Range Sports or Wild Ernest Sports to rent a pair.
-
Ice Skating at North Pond Park: From December through early March, the town of Silverthorne plows and maintains the ice rink at North Pond Park, a local favorite. Bring your own skates (and hockey sticks) anytime from dawn to dusk.

As a special town with stunning scenery and a passionate community, the Town of Silverthorne recently created a road map to keep Silverthorne a healthy place to live, work, and recreate for generations to come. Creating effective infrastructure for diverting materials/waste to recycling and composting instead, to reduce the amount going to landfills, is the third pillar of the Town of Silverthorne’s Sustainability Strategic Plan.
|
We tend to think of paper primarily in two dimensions, but the creations on display at the Silverthorne Performing Arts Center are anything but flat. The work of artist Paulina M. Johnson, forms forests and faces, blankets and buttes. The exhibit consists of eleven works and each piece forms a retrospective of Johnson’s work since 2018, when she left graphic design and threw herself passionately into paper art.

Hands-free Law Goes into Effect Jan. 1
On Jan. 1, 2025, a new law will go into effect in Colorado that prohibits drivers from using a mobile electronic device while driving, though hands-free accessories are permitted. The law prohibits holding or manually using a phone or other mobile device while driving, requiring all drivers to use a hands-free device. Exemptions to the law include individuals reporting emergencies, utility workers, code enforcement officers, animal protection officers, first responders, and individuals in parked vehicles.
Penalties for violating the new law in Colorado start with a $75 fine and two license suspension points for the first offense. Repeat offenders face higher fines and more license suspension points. First-time violators can have the charge dismissed if they provide proof of purchasing a hands-free accessory. Learn more at codot.gov/handsfreeco.
Fraud Alert
Recently, there have been numerous reports of residents receiving fraud calls in which the caller says an individual has an active warrant for failing to appear in court. The caller typically identifies as "Sheriff" or with the Summit County Sheriff's Office and directs individuals to purchase bank notes, cashier checks, money vouchers, gift cards, Crypto/Bitcoin, etc.
The Silverthorne Police Department and the Summit County Sheriff's Office will never direct individuals to make a purchase or provide funds regarding a warrant. Law enforcement officials will always meet individuals in person regarding legitimate warrants and legal concerns.
- If you receive a fraud call: DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING AND/OR PAY ANYONE.
- Record the phone number and ask the caller to identify themselves.
- While on the phone with the scammer or immediately after, call Summit County Non-Emergency Dispatch to report the scam at 970-668-8600
- Report the incident to ic3.gov, a federal reporting hub through the Internet Crime Complaint Center run by the FBI.
