Maker of the Month: Jack Western
Each month the Art Spot Silverthorne Makerspace is highlighting a Maker of the Month to showcase the talented artists and creators in our community.
Artist Jack Western has played music and been a writter for most of his life. Gradually, he fell away from those outlets and was introduced to pottery this past summer. The expressiveness and possibilities of the medium capitavated him from the beginning.
While initally struck by the sheer amount of tools and materials available at the Art Spot, Jack says "I've also come to really enjoy the community at the Art Spot. As a newer member, I know I'm only just scratching the surface, but everyone has already been so kind and supportive, and it's inspiring to be around so many incredible artists."
Jack keeps coming back to the Art Spot to keep learning. "Every time I step in there I learn something, or improve ever so marginally, and that's thrilling because ceramics moves me and I want to be good at this one day. It's very hard, and getting better at hard things you care about is satisfying."
When not creating at the Art Spot, Jack is a ski patroller at Arapahoe Basin where he has an adorable avalanche dog in training. He looks forward to seeing where his ceramic journey leads in the future.

Friday, Nov. 15 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
This class introduces participants to basic soldering techniques and how to use the torch. Students will create two to three silver stacking rings and will learn to size, shape, texture, sand and polish. Plus, earn your certification to use the jewelry equipment on your own while taking this class.
Tuesday, Nov. 19 from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
Get into the festive spirit and decorate wooden ornaments with acrylic paint and ribbon to create the perfect gift or holiday ornament.

Saturday, Nov. 16 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Get creative with the whole family in this mug mug making class. The instructor will guide participants through the construction of a mug, how to attach a handle, and fun surface decoration. Make the perfect gift for the holiday season or keep it for yourself!
Thursday, Nov. 21 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Join the Simple Art Studio for this fun seasonal craft. Use resources from mother nature to create your own pinecone wreath for the perfect fall décor.

Showcase your art at the Silverthorne Recreation Center! The Silverthorne Art Board is seeking local photographers to display their adventure themed photography in the public hallway leading to Kid's Korner. Deadline to apply is Nov. 19 at noon. Learn more and apply here.

Saturday, Nov. 16 from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Art Spot
Head to the Art Spot Silverthorne Makerspace for an open house on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 3 to 8 p.m. Take a tour of the Art Spot, shop local handmade artwork and meet the resident artists. Community members and experienced artists can also get certified to use the art equipment for free, complete a free community craft, or join a paid class during the event. A special buy one, get one pass promotion will be available during this event.

Join the Town of Silverthorne for a celebration of cultures from around the world on Thursday, Nov. 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Silverthorne Pavilion! Learn about food, currency, traditions, languages, music, dances and more from our international neighbors living in Summit County.

Friday, Dec. 6 at the Silverthorne Pavilion
Celebrate the holidays with the Town of Silverthorne at December First Friday! Head to the Silverthorne Pavilion on Friday, Dec. 6 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. for the annual holiday tree lighting ceremony and holiday art market. Sip on hot chocolate as you shop unique wares from local artists and enjoy live music, carolers, holiday crafts and more. Community members will also be able to visit with Santa himself.
The holiday art market continues on Sunday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Silverthorne Pavilion for more holiday shopping.

Instructor Spotlight: Sharon Speedy

Local artist Sharon enjoys creating artwork that people enjoy wearing. Having explored many different media and techniques during her 27 years of teaching art, she has concentrated on making jewelry for the past several years. Her work is continually changing as Sharon explores a variety of techniques and processes. Most of her work is individually fabricated and hand cut with very little components made by others. At the Art Spot, Sharon teaches jewelry making classes to inspire others to create their own ready to wear items. |
