Maker of the Month: Marcus Miller
Each month the Art Spot Silverthorne Makerspace is highlighting a Maker of the Month to showcase the talented artists and creators in our community.
Artist Marcus Miller has always had fun making things. He enjoys creating at the Art Spot because it's easier and more relaxing to create there then at home. He says everything he needs to paint, make or create is available at the Art Spot and that it is a nice place to spend an evening. Marcus appreciates the helpful staff that always is available to help and recently completed a fun holiday card project using the Art Spot's printmaking equipment.
Marcus credits his exploration into the world of art to a quote from Kurt Vonnegut:
Practice any art, music, singing, dancing, acting, drawing, painting, sculpting, poetry, fiction, essays, reportage, no matter how well or badly, not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming, to find out what’s inside you, to make your soul grow.
Write a six line poem, about anything, but rhymed. No fair tennis without a net. Make it as good as you possibly can. But don’t tell anybody what you’re doing. Don’t show it or recite it to anybody, not even your girlfriend or parents or whatever, or Ms. Lockwood. OK?
Tear it up into teeny-weeny pieces, and discard them into widely separated trash recepticals [sic]. You will find that you have already been gloriously rewarded for your poem. You have experienced becoming, learned a lot more about what’s inside you, and you have made your soul grow.
Marcus believes in creating for creations sake, "it’s what makes us human." We can't wait to see what Marcus creates next!
