Silverthorne Welcomes Studio
Tenants to the Art Spot
The Town of Silverthorne is pleased to welcome the new studio tenants of the Art Spot Silverthorne Makerspace! During the fall of 2022, the Town distributed a call for artists and creative businesses to apply for four available studio spaces in the new Art Spot Silverthorne Makerspace. A total of 29 applications were received and, through a competitive review process led by the Silverthorne Art Board, the tenants were selected.
Silverthorne excitedly welcomes businesses The Frosted Flamingo and the Glaze Spot: A Paint Your Own Pottery Studio to the Art Spot, along with local artists Ingrid Davis and Melissa Michel. Learn more about the Art Spot studio tenants below:

Becca Spiro is the owner and founder of The Frosted Flamingo and holds a BA in Visual Art and Art History from Bowdoin College and an MA in Contemporary Art from Sotheby’s Institute of Art. Spiro grew up in a creative household and believes that art should be a shared experience, just like a delicious meal or an exciting vacation. Becca founded The Frosted Flamingo to bring joy and empowerment to people through creativity and artistic creation. The Frosted Flamingo provides children and adults with a rare hands-on experience—an opportunity to tap into your inner artist and make something that is uniquely yours. The Frosted Flamingo will have a new home base in the Art Spot, while continuing to provide creative activities across Summit County.

Additional forms for children such as animal bowls and tea sets will also be featured, and the Glaze Spot will be available for painting parties and more.

Ingrid Davis
Local artist Ingrid Davis, known as Kiki, is the founder, designer and maker of Simple Art Studio. Davis is from Guatemala and founded Simple Art Studio in 2021 as a way to work through depression and create art with others. Davis’ art interests include sewing, painting, drawing, sculpting, block printing and jewelry. Her husband Derrick also helps the Simple Art Studio on larger art pieces and woodworking projects. Simple Art Studio is inspired by the Davises multicultural family, with work reflecting their inclusive beliefs and culture.

Melissa Michel earned her BFA at the University of Tennessee Martin and has been working with clay for over 15 years. She has taught and worked in several ceramic studios across the nation, settling in Summit County and teaching at Breckenridge Creative Arts. Michel draws from traditional clay methods and creates unique pieces that range from functional vessels to sculptural installations. Her use of sgraffito allows her to transform clay surfaces into a language of mark making, pattern and texture to convey an illustrated meditation. Michel brings inspiration from Ancient Mexican art and North American Indian motifs, creating one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect an occupied mind consumed by line and design.
