Winter is in full swing in Silverthorne and there are countless activities to enjoy around town! Check out some of our favorite winter activities below for a fun way to spend a day with friends and family.
-
Sledding: Enjoy the simple pleasures of winter with a day of sledding at Rainbow Park or Maryland Creek Park. Families with little ones will want to head to Rainbow Park for its smaller and gentler slopes, while older kids and adults will want to try the larger hill at Maryland Creek Park.
-
Snowshoeing: Snow enthusiasts have a host of snowshoeing adventures accessible via the area’s myriad of trailheads. Check out Acorn Creek, Salt Lick Trail or Lily Pad Lake for an adventurous day in the woods; and visit Wild Ernest Sports or Blue Valley Ski & Board Rentals if you need to rent a pair of snowshoes.
-
Nordic Skiing at The Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks: Take in the mountain views around Silverthorne at the free Nordic Center at the Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks. The Nordic Center features two courses for Nordic skiers and snowshoers. View a map of the trails here. No sledding, skiing or snowboarding is allowed at the Raven Golf Club and no walking or dogs allowed on the snowshoe and Nordic trails. If you need a pair of cross country skis, head to Gore Range Sports or Wild Ernest Sports to rent a pair.
-
Ice Skating at North Pond Park: From December through early March, the town of Silverthorne plows and maintains the ice rink at North Pond Park, a local’s favorite. Bring your own skates (and hockey sticks) anytime from dawn to dusk.

When heading out into the backcountry, always know before you go. Whether you are backcountry skiing or snowboarding, snowmobiling, cross country skiing or snowshoeing, it is essential to always check the avalanche forecast before heading out. Summit County and Colorado have experienced heavy snowfall this winter and it important to stay avalanche aware. Always check the forecast, carry the necessary gear, know how to use the gear, and don't go out alone. Check the forecast and learn more on the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) website.
