Thank you to all who attended CBO's inaugural Broadband Summit! The event was a great success and we're thrilled to have such strong and capable partners in our efforts to connect Colorado.
"Advancing Colorado Broadband: How Communities Can Work with Industry" Panel
"Working with the State of Colorado" Panel
The CBO is excited to report that the Governor's Office of Information Technology's (OIT) priority bill, SB23-183 (Local Government Provision of Communication Services) passed the House and Senate with bipartisan support and was signed by the Governor on May 1. This legislation eliminates a 2005 law that has jeopardized the state’s efforts to close the digital divide and enables Colorado’s local governments to provide, or partner to provide, broadband internet service without having to pass voter referendums. SB23-183 is necessary to close existing gaps in the state as we work to reach our goal of connecting 99% of Colorado households to high-speed broadband by the end of 2027.
CBO is looking forward to getting on the road to meet with local communities to discuss all things Colorado broadband. On this tour, we plan to cover the CPF application guidelines and process, the BEAD 5-year Action Plan and Tribal consultations.
If you would like the CBO Summer Broadband Roadshow to visit your town, please fill out our interest form by May 12.
CBO Executive Director Brandy Reitter was given the opportunity to have an in-depth & honest conversation with the Broadband Bunch Podcast host Peter Pizzutillo on what she thinks are Colorado’s biggest broadband barriers.
The Digital Equity team will launch a statewide survey early this summer to gather data on Colorado’s current digital equity status. Community based organizations are working closely with the team to guarantee survey administration and provide current landscape reports for their organizations. Once the survey link becomes available, organizations across industries are encouraged to share widely in order to ensure that Colorado’s Digital Equity Plan addresses the digital inclusion needs of Colorado's diverse communities.
