Donate Books & Discover New Reads!

The Louisville Public Library and the Louisville Public Library Foundation are excited to host two upcoming opportunities for community members to give books new life—and find new favorites of their own.

Book Donation Event – Sunday, September 27, 9 a.m.–12 p.m.
If books are piling up in your home, we can help put them to good use. Bring up to five boxes of books per household to our donation event, where they’ll either support the Foundation’s annual book sale or be recycled responsibly. To help us manage volume and keep drop-offs running smoothly, please sign up for a time slot.

Foundation Used Book Sale – October 2–4 
The annual Louisville Public Library Foundation Used Book Sale returns with great deals for every reader. Books are just $1 each—perfect for expanding your home library or finding thoughtful gifts. Every purchase supports Foundation-funded programming, technology, and special projects that enrich the library experience for the entire community.

Sale Hours:

• Friday, October 2 | 5–7 p.m.
• Saturday, October 3 | 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
• Sunday, October 4 | 1–5 p.m.

Storytime

Songs, books, and a little silliness — Storytime is a free weekly program for babies, toddlers, and young children. Each session is designed to build early literacy skills and make reading feel like the best part of the week.

Talking Dragons for Kids

Dragons can breathe fire, soar through the sky, guard treasure—and sometimes they have quite a lot to say. This month’s Kids Booklist is filled with juvenile fiction featuring dragons that communicate, whether it’s with words or in other surprising ways. Fans of Wings of Fire and fantastical adventures can discover their next favorite dragon at the Library or online.

We’re excited to share some big news: the Library has launched a brand-new website! It’s designed to make your experience easier, faster, and more enjoyable—whether you’re searching for your next great read, signing up for events, or managing your account on the go.

Here’s what’s new:

• A search function that actually works
• Mobile-friendly design for easy use on any device
• Improved calendar search and registration
• Clean, minimal, and accessible layout

We’ve done our best to reduce disruptions, but we recommend visiting the new site to update your saved links. You may run into broken links or notice a few things that aren’t functioning perfectly—we’re still polishing everything, and your feedback is incredibly helpful.

If you spot an issue, please let us know by submitting the website feedback form. You can find it in the website footer and underneath the main menus.

For the next few weeks, Google search results may still show pages from the old site. The easiest way to explore the new site is to go directly to LouisvilleCO.gov/Library and use the built-in search bar.

Reading Buddies

Reading Buddies pairs teenage volunteers ages 13-17 with children in grades 1-3. The Buddies meet every week to do fun reading-related activities. Applications for Big Buddies open on August 31 and Little Buddies registration opens September 20. The session meets on Sundays from 3:30-4:30 for 7 weeks from October 4 to November 15.

Library Card Sign-Up Month Booklist for Adults

There’s more to a library than shelves of books. Celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month with stories set in libraries and books that explore the people, places, and possibilities found within them. Whether you love libraries, librarians, books about books, or simply a good story, there’s something waiting for you on this month’s Adult Booklist.

Amazing Audiobooks for Teens

Some stories are even better when you listen. This month’s Teen Booklist features audiobooks brought to life by memorable narrators, compelling performances, and stories worth putting on your headphones for. Find your next listen and enjoy a great book wherever you go.

Halloween Costume Exchange

Let’s make Halloween "eek-o-friendly" with a costume exchange! Starting August 31, we will be collecting good-condition, clean Halloween costumes for all ages.

Louisville Lens Opening Reception

Friday, September 4 | 5–7 p.m. | Library (951 Spruce Street)
As members of a small community, Louisville residents share many of the same spaces and routines daily. And yet, we all experience Louisville a little differently. Our general life experiences and our specific emotions each day allow each of us to see Louisville through our own 'lens.' For this exhibit, the City of Louisville and Big Heart Film photographer Megan Sweeney worked with 22 Louisville residents of all ages and backgrounds to collect 22 perspectives on Louisville in the form of footage from disposable cameras. Join us for our opening reception to see Louisville from a new perspective and share a glimpse of your own lens! Learn more.

Museum Birthday Party

Come celebrate the Museum’ s 40th birthday! Learn about the history of your local Museum at this birthday bash. Try for vintage prizes in a round of bingo, meet historic actors, and enjoy a slice of cake.

Vintage Baseball

Saturday, September 19 | 11 – 1 p.m. | Miners Field (1212 South Street)
Come root for the Louisville Miners at this free vintage baseball game! This showdown will feature historic uniforms, equipment, and game rules. Bring the whole family to enjoy America’s pastime with cracker jacks, historic reenactors, and live music from the Brassoholics. The first 300 guests will receive free t-shirts to show their team spirit, and Rocket Dogs will be selling hotdogs throughout the game.
