Next steps
If you've already scheduled your appointment, no action is needed. Some customers have already scheduled their replacement and will be receiving their new meters as early as next month. Installs will continue through the remainder of the year.
Frequently asked questions
We've appreciated hearing from many customers over the last few weeks with questions, comments, and concerns. Take a look at our most frequently asked questions and comments.
I typed in my address in the online scheduling tool, but it's not showing up. What do I do?
If the online scheduling does not recognize your address, it is most likely because your meter is located outside of your home. For outdoor meters, our technicians will not need access to your home, so you do not need to schedule an appointment. A technician will knock on your door to let you know when they are accessing your front yard. If you are not home, they will replace your meter and leave a door hanger letting you know it was replaced. If you live in a Marshall Fire Rebuild area, your meter is likely outside in your front yard.
If you are certain your meter is located inside but your address does not appear, please reach out to us at MeterReplacement@LouisvilleCO.gov or 303-335-4543.
Where is my water meter?
Most residential water meters in Louisville are located inside the home. You can find it near your water shut off valve, most likely in one of these areas:
Please locate your meter and clear a space for us to access it prior to our technician arriving at your home or business.
Will businesses need to get their meters replaced?
Yes, this project also applies to our commercial customers. We understand some of our businesses cannot allow water shutoff during business hours. If you are a business, we recommend calling to schedule so you can let us know your operational constraints and we will accommodate as best we can.
I don't want my meter replaced.
We understand that having a stranger in your home is not ideal. Our goal is to be in and out as efficiently as possible! Scheduling your appointment now allows us to get the replacement done when it works best for you.
Water meters must be replaced every 10-20 years for reliability and to keep up with changing technology. These new meters will also improve our service to you by providing more accurate readings and reducing field time for staff. Improved accuracy gives us better data to work with when making water decisions in the future. Getting all meters on one system is necessary to reap these benefits.
If you do not want your water meter inside your home, you can move your current water meter outside of your home prior to your appointment. This would require the property owner to hire a contractor and obtain the required permits from the City to construct an outdoor meter pit. For more info on moving your meter, contact us at MeterReplacement@LouisvilleCO.gov.
